Global reliance on OPEC to rise: IEA

PressTV -- “Global dependence on the OPEC for oil will rise in the next five to 10 years as output by non-OPEC nations falls,” IEA Executive Director Nobuo Tanaka said.

"We have seen an increase in non-OPEC supplies. But in the mid-term, non-OPEC production will decline, so dependency on OPEC oil will increase.”

Tanaka noted that the global oil market is currently well supplied. It is anticipated that there will be no change to OPEC production quotas.

Iran is OPEC’s second-largest oil producer after Saudi Arabia.

In 2009, Iran's crude production stood at approximately at 3.8 million barrels per day.

OPEC's 12 members — Iran, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Algeria, Libya, Nigeria, Angola, Ecuador, and Venezuela — produce about 40 percent of the world's crude oil

Isn't it great sending US dollars to all those counties that hate us! Like we depend on them for our oil based economy and they are going to use that money somehow against us.

Yes there is a world market for crude oil, but if America can safely and responsibly drill more oil here then that means more than just oil. It means JOBS.

hubcap, you do know that oil drilled here goes on the world commodities market like any oil drilled anywhere else to be sold to the highest bidder, right?
Is the American Petroleum Institute paying you to lobby on their behalf, or are you just doing it for kicks because you hate "tree-huggers" so much? Hope you don't care to hunt, or fish, or breathe non-toxic air, or drink non-toxic water, just so long as huge corporations that don't give one whit about you can do whatever they want, right?

If the Environmentalists would shut up we could drill here and be completely oil independant. The Caribou don't seem to mind the drilling, just the freaky tree huggers.

And what is Pres. Obama and Congress doing to seriously move us away from OPEC and toward energy independence? It will take all forms of alternative energy in concert to achieve such a lofty goal.

We need to move to natural gas as our primary fuel and get off the oil addiction.

I hate to say it but I think we need to increase the gas tax to get people to stop wasting so much gas. People could burn much less gas and not impact their day much. How? Carpool, Use public transportation, ride a bike, walk, and dont just jump in the car whenever the whim hits you. Think first, only drive if you must.

Be nice to have OPEC in a bind, with more of the US energy coming from alternative sources, and imports cut way back...

The ONLY way this comes true is if the oil companies short the market in an attempt to increase prices. There is just way more oil out there than is being reported openly.

I find that statement to be absurd. Brazil has found off it's shores maybe the world's biggest oil reserves. The US has HUGE reserves both in Alaska, the pacific offshore, The balkan formation, ect. Russia has huge reserves, the extent of which is largely unknown. OPEC is only producing 40 % now, a figure I have doubts about. The last industry figure I saw placed OPEC's production at about 32%. This is just a scare statement, designed to make FOOLS accept higher oil prices. ( THE MANIPULATORS ARE AT IT AGAIN)

Only 40 percent... that's a lot less than I first thought. The balance doesn't worry me... What worries me is we have a government who will not allow the American Oil industry to do what it is meant to do. The IMF likely is behind this as well.

Use less fuel... but the bottom line is that we have a government more affraid of 2 percent of the population versus the 98 percent that need some action to stabilize the economy.

Our National Government is suppose to look out for international protection. Well right now I'm feeling vulnerable. How about Prez Obama? Drill and allow Interior Dept to do what they are required by law to do.... monitor & correct improprities.
